Building your email list is one of the most highly recommended marketing strategies, but how do you go about doing that?
InstaFreebie is one of the most useful sites out there to help you give away a free copy of your book and receive email addresses in return.
Here’s how it works.
Three Different Options
Instafreebie offers three different plans:
The Basic plan is free, but it doesn’t enable you to gather email addresses in return for giving away your book.
If you want to collect email addresses and build your mailing list then you need to opt for the Plus or Pro plans, but you get a 30 day free trial period.
InstaFreebie integrates seamlessly with Mailchimp. If you don’t manage your email list using Mailchimp then you would need to set up a Mailchimp list for the purposes of this exercise and transfer the emails across to your usual list provider. Mailchimp allows you to have up to 2,000 people on your list for free.
Setting Up Your Book
Entering your book details into InstaFreebie is dead easy. You will need to upload a cover and an epub file. Instafreebie then automatically creates a mobi file and a PDF for you so that readers can download your book in a format of their choice.
Once you’ve entered your book details and created a giveaway page, InstaFreebie provides you with a link to the giveaway page that you can share on social media to encourage people to download copies of your book. A giveaway page looks like this:
When a reader enters their email address and claims a copy of your book, InstaFreebie sends them the book and adds their email address to your Mailchimp list.
Before setting this up I wondered whether adding an email to my Mailchimp list in this way would trigger the Mailchimp Final Welcome Email which (if people have opted into my list directly from my website) ordinarily directs them to Book Funnel where they can download their free book. I was worried that this might be confusing for readers. However, I tested it myself and was pleased to discover that emails added via InstaFreebie do not trigger the Final Welcome Email from Mailchimp.
Email addresses that are added to your Mailchimp list by InstaFreebie are marked as such in the source field.
Once everything is up and running you can monitor progress on your giveaway dashboard.
Tip: When sharing details of your giveaway on social media, make sure to use the hashtags #instafreebie and @instafreebie because Instafreebie will do more to promote your book, the more you do too 🙂
